Progress is being made on installing new CCTV cameras in Morpeth.

At a meeting of the town council’s finance and general purposes committee, council clerk Tracey Bell said that following a meeting with Northumbria Police, local officers from the force have submitted a wishlist of particular locations.

Discussions are also taking place with Northumberland County Council about wiring them up to lampposts and costings will be carried out.

Quotes are now being sought with companies that provide the systems and a decision on how much to allocate for CCTV cameras will be made as part of the budget process.

In Ponteland, town councillors have agreed to fund additional CCTV.

Extra cameras are to be installed at Merton Hall, which will cover the hall, the main park entrance and up to Merton Way, after the hall’s trustees gave their support.

Repairs have been carried out on the existing CCTV system and councillors also agreed to proceed with a maintenance agreement.
