Centre facelift wins praise

COMMUNITY centre users in Morpeth are happy customers after a number of improvements.

Morpeth Town Council borrowed £50,000 to improve facilities at Storey Park and St James’s Centre, with work including installing new energy efficient heating systems, lighting, insulation, hot water heaters and double glazing, as well as redecorating.

Now the work is finished and staff have reported a good response from the public.

At a meeting of the council’s Property and Asset Management Committee, Deputy Clerk Angela Logan said: “Most of the work that was done in the summer, the users are very happy with and they say the environment has improved.

“The new heating is much better than what we had and everybody is very happy with the way things have been dealt with. Our users are very appreciative of the work that has been done and everybody recognises the vast improvements.”

The council has now started repaying the loan.

Additional works have seen toilets refurbished at Storey Park, while St James’s, along with Morpeth Town Hall, is benefiting from a new hearing loop, integrated sound system and lectern.
