A dedicated blood donor from Morpeth was recognised by NHS Blood and Transplant for his loyalty and commitment during a ceremony at Lumley Castle in Durham.
David Walsh has now given blood 100 times. The 65-year-old, who has been a Morpeth resident for 30 years, was living in Kirkby Stephen, Cumbria, when he first donated, aged 18.
His niece Heather Ruddick was with him and they both enjoyed the ceremony.
The Middle Greens resident said: “I missed a few when I had to travel for work, but every time I was available, I made sure I went along to a donation session.
“It’s very important to give blood. It helps to save lives and I feel better in myself when I donate some.”
Mr Walsh received his award from John Fuller, who was also at the ceremony to collect his accolade for 100 donations, and Mr Fuller’s wife Jacqueline, who received blood during an operation.
