A MORPETH charity has five places on offer for the Great North Run.
Barnabas Safe and Sound has secured the places for fund-raisers to help support its work with local young people.
The race is the world’s largest half-marathon, attracting more than 50,000 runners to take on a 13.1 mile route from Newcastle to South Shields.
The Barnabas runners will be asked to raise sponsorship for the charity to enable it to continue its work supporting and encouraging young people, giving them a safe home and opportunities to reach their full potential.
Chief Executive Chris Menzies said: “There is nothing quite like the anticipation of running alongside thousands of people under the famous Tyne Bridge, the sense of achievement in passing the line on the seafront at South Shields and knowing that your efforts have made a difference to the lives of young people in your community.
“Barnabas Safe and Sound would love to hear from anyone interested in obtaining a guaranteed place in the run.
“We feel very lucky to have obtained five spaces for the event this year — we know these places are like gold dust to dedicated runners and we are very excited to be part of the event.
“It is important to Barnabas that our runners are as committed to raising funds as they are to running.”
The run takes place on Sunday, September 16.
Anyone wishing to apply for a Barnabas place should register their interest by Tuesday. To obtain an information pack contact Mr Menzies or Gill Monaghan on 01670 514881 or email GM@barnabas-northumberland.org.uk
