It was party time at a Morpeth residential home as John and Catherine Simpson celebrated being married for 60 years.
They met through the Women’s Junior Air Corps, which was run by John’s father, and pictures at the Coliseum.
Catherine, 78, worked in a cake shop opposite the Black Bull and was a nursing care officer at Hepscott Park and Northgate. John, 84, was in the army and served in Korea, a nursing officer, bus driver and also worked in road construction.
The diamond-wedding party at Terravis Park, where Catherine currently lives, was organised by daughter Carol Monaghan and son Steven (their brother John died five years ago). They have four grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
