MANY visitors to Morpeth Market Place yesterday would have done a double take as Santa was in town.
But they were able to more than catch a glimpse of him as he was enjoying a summer holiday and he had a seasonal treat up his sleeve.
The Father Christmas idea was devised by Metro Radio to accompany breakfast presenters Karen Wight and Steve Furnell on their tour of the North East this week.
The duo really enjoyed doing their show in Morpeth and for the latter part of their slot, they were surrounded by the weekly Wednesday market.
Steve said: “We’ve absolutely loved it here and everyone has been very friendly with us, including the market traders who have been very accommodating
“Morpeth was among the top destinations to take Santa on his summer holiday and he’s also had a great time here.”
Karen added: “The beautiful flowers in the Market Place and the stunning Clock Tower provided a perfect backdrop for our show.
“We started presenting the breakfast programme for Metro Radio in June and it has been great to get out the studio this week and meet some of the listeners.”
As well as getting a photo with Santa, those who came along were given an earl;y Christmas present of a white chocolate and cranberry cheesecake.
