MORPETH and District Soroptimists President Susan Guillain was delighted to welcome Pam Turner as the newest member to the club.
She and Membership Secretary Kate MacDonald both volunteer at the Morpeth Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) and they met Pam when she started to volunteer there. Soon after, Pam started to come to club meetings and events.
Morpeth Soroptimists and CAB have strong links which have been built up over many years of club members volunteering in many different roles.
Susan has been a volunteer adviser in the Morpeth bureau for almost 10 years after a career in nursing. Kate recently moved back north after a career in the police force in Kent.
Pam, who worked within education, helps with the training of volunteers and has trained to be a Gateway Assessor so she can support clients on their first visit to the Morpeth CAB office.
She said: “In addition to my CAB work, I was looking for something else to do that would be worthwhile as well as providing some social contacts.
“After speaking to Kate and Susan, joining the Soroptimists sounded as though this would be an ideal way to fit the bill.
“Before joining officially, I was welcomed at both social and business meetings. Members were always very friendly and I was amazed at the range of activities Soroptomists became involved in.
“The opportunities are there to support the local community, offer help to charities at home and abroad, make new friends, attend regional meetings and conferences and listen to some interesting and remarkable speakers.
“Therefore, I had no hesitation about joining the club and would recommend it to anyone looking for something to do which is fulfilling and rewarding.”
Kate added: “Joining a local organisation is a great way to meet new people. Pam is a great example of someone who decided to get involved in Soroptimists and Citizens Advice to give something back to the community and help people in times of great need.
“Women join us from all walks of life and contribute with a wealth of experience when planning events and meetings and raising funds.”
