CONCERNS have been raised about the timing of a road closure.
A Temporary Road Closure Notice has been issued by Northumberland County Council for the C146 High House road.
The road would be closed from its junction with the B6343 Mitford Road from June 19 to August 20 to install a new high voltage cable.
But members of Morpeth Town Council’s Planning and Transport Committee have said it may be better to wait until the school holidays.
Coun Ken Brown said: “It seems bizarre timing. The High House road is used significantly by traffic coming from Newminster and Chantry schools so we are going to be sending that traffic through the town centre at a time when it is already congested.
“It seems perfectly sensible for the amount of time they want to close the road to wait until the schools close.”
Coun Nic Best said a lot of agricultural traffic also uses the road and the closure may be timed to avoid harvest time.
The committee will write to the county council to ask if such issues have been considered.
