Cooks put their skills to the test

A RANGE of tasty treats will be on display at a garden centre near Morpeth on Saturday.

The Women’s Institute is hosting a cookery contest, which consists of eight different categories including a decorated chocolate cake, cheese scones and fruit cordial.

The entries and results will then be available to view at the competition venue, Heighley Gate Nursery and Garden Centre.

Events Co-ordinator Sarah Tait said: “The women have been busy in their kitchens and will be bringing their culinary creations to the garden centre to be judged.

“We’re working in partnership with the Northumberland Federation of Women’s Institutes and the cookery competition is one of a series of events we are holding in conjunction with them.

“Anyone interested in joining the WI will be able to chat to existing members during the event and find out more information.”

The display and competition will take place from 10am to 3.30pm. For more details, telephone 01670 513416.
