Council learning to be the best

The authority beat off more than 100 competitors to with the Regional Organisation of the Year Award from National Learning Live.

The award is open to public sector employers to recognise the implementation of more modern, cost effective and efficient workforce development initiatives.

The county council impressed examiners with its creation of a full virtual learning environment for staff, which involved setting up around 5,000 individual accounts and learning plans in less than eight months.

Executive Member for Corporate Resources Andrew Tebbutt said: “This award is yet further proof that the Liberal Democrat Administration in Northumberland is leading an excellent county council. We are fortunate to have some fantastically-committed staff working for us and I would like to congratulate them for their achievements.

“We have proven in these last four-and-a-half years that it is possible to achieve more without needing more resources – it’s just a question of being willing to be brave and innovative.”
