Council plans website facelift

A NEW-LOOK website is being planned for Morpeth Town Council.

The authority is seeking quotes from experts to revamp its current site to enable more services to be provided and information to be added more quickly.

Members of the council’s Communications Group are leading the project.

Coun Ken Brown said: “Members may have noticed some minor changes in recent weeks, which have improved our website somewhat, but the group considers that that is as far as we can go with the current website.

“Two elements are missing. One is search facilities, which are handy if you want to find agendas and minutes, and if we want to improve search facilities the current mechanism will not do it.

“Also the current mechanism will not allow the control of content to be directly handled by our staff, which causes a delay in information getting on the site.”

Coun Andrew Tebbutt agreed that an upgrade was needed and suggested that online room hire could also be considered.

“I think it makes absolute sense to look at this,” he said.

“We do need to be very clear and spend some time drawing up the tender as to what we actually want.

“I don’t think at the moment you can pay for anything online in relation to the hire of Storey Park or the Town Hall and I would have thought in this day and age that you should be able to do that.

“We should be making sure that we have the potential to add these facilities.”

Members of the council’s Finance and General Purposes Committee backed plans to seek quotes from potential suppliers, including the current one, to improve the site.
