Stobswood Welfare Recreation Club is set to receive more than £9,500 from Northumberland County Council’s welfare fund, along with additional money from Coun Scott Dickinson’s small schemes funding.

After recently suffering internal water damage as a result of a faulty roof, the recreation centre team is turning its attention to the internal repairs required since repairing the roof.

The funding will go towards repairing walls and replacing carpets and ceilings, along with new furniture and a new LED lighting system that will also help to lower utility costs.

Coun Dickinson said: “It is fantastic to see Stobswood Welfare Recreation Club receiving funding towards the refurbishment.

“The centre is widely used by a number of groups and the refurbishment will greatly benefit the local community.”

Kevin Batson, a trustee who is in charge of securing funds for the club, said: “The club is central to the community and this refurbishment will mean that we can improve the facilities for all those who use the centre.”
