Council to install extra grit bins

Extra grit bins are to be provided in Morpeth streets.

Morpeth Town Council’s Finance and General Purposes Committee has agreed to spend £2,400 to buy four new bins.

They will be placed in Emily Davison Avenue, Grange Road cul-de-sac, the north side of Chantry Footbridge and at the junction of Townsend Crescent and Abbey Gate.

Councillors have consulted residents about the locations.

The bins will be filled by Northumberland County Council for payment from the town authority.

A request for a grit bin in Challoner’s Gardens will be discussed in the summer.

Town Clerk Gillian Turner said: “We have got a budget for street furniture, but we have to talk to residents about where the bins go to make sure everyone is happy.”
