Northumberland County Council has announced that it is putting its former Register Office in Morpeth up for sale.
The Grade II-listed building off Newgate Street was also an office for social services and education welfare workers.
The council stopped using it in April 2014.
This decision was taken as part of the authority’s review of its buildings and assets across Northumberland’s main towns, which also includes a ‘landmark riverside development’ east of the Telford Bridge.
Concerns have been raised by residents that it would involve completely knocking down Victorian buildings The Willows and Beechfield House in Gas House Lane.
