COUNCILLORS have called for early talks over the transfer of local authority services.
Northumberland County Council is in the process of transferring a number of responsibilities to town and parish councils following local government re-organisation in 2009.
And with the next round of transfers due to take place in April, Morpeth Town Council is eager to get the planning process under way.
Coun Andrew Tebbutt said: “We are seeking an early meeting with Northumberland County Council to debate some of the key assets that are on the list. I have been given assurances that it will take place sooner rather than later in order that we can get the process going.
“Our budget process starts in September and the Property and Assets Committee needs to consider the position before we start talking about the budget.”
Town councillors said there will be particular concerns about cemetery services to resolve.
The transfer process seeks to standardise responsibility for services countywide as under the former council system there were a number of differences between the various district and parish authorities.
