County Hall report is imminent

A report on the proposed sell-off of County Hall is set to be completed this month.

Northumberland County Council’s administration has proposed selling the Loansdean headquarters for housing and moving the authority’s base to Ashington.

However, Morpeth Town Council has warned of the implications for Morpeth, which would lose around 1,000 jobs, and a 595-name petition was submitted last month seeking evidence of the need and impact of such a move.

A report on the options, finances and an economic impact assessment for Morpeth will be presented to the council’s Economic Prosperity and Strategic Services Scrutiny Committee on September 23, ahead of discussion at the Policy Board in October.
