Northumberland has been shortlisted for a major tourism prize – but it needs the public’s support to help it win.

The county is in the running to be crowned Best Domestic Destination in the Family Traveller Awards 2015.

It comes a month after the Secret Kingdom was named as a finalist for the Best UK Holiday County/Destination in the prestigious 2015 British Travel Awards, with the winner announced in November.

The Family Traveller Awards, in association with Family and Friends Railcard, are the first of their kind and have been devised by Family Traveller magazine and familytraveller.com to recognise the best in family travel.

They are now open to reader and public votes and Northumbrians and fans of the county are being encouraged to show their support by voting online at www.familytravellerawards.com

Each voter will automatically be entered into a prize draw to win an all-inclusive, luxury family holiday to destinations including Mauritius, Thailand and Florida.

Jude Leitch, director of Northumberland Tourism, said: “It is a fantastic achievement for Northumberland to be nominated in two major tourism awards this year.

“Tourism is important for Northumberland and being shortlisted for the Family Traveller Awards is further proof that Northumberland is an increasingly popular destination for visitors.”

The county is up against Brighton & Hove, Isles of Scilly, Cornwall, North Norfolk, Cardiff Bay, Devon, Cairngorm Mountains, Argyllshire, Guernsey and the Isle of Wight in the Best Domestic Destination category. The winner will be announced in September.
