UNLICENSED anglers have been brought to book.

The Environment Agency’s Fisheries Enforcement Officers have carried out 2,285 licence checks on rivers, lakes and ponds from North Yorkshire to Northumberland since April, including on the banks of the Wansbeck.

Ninety anglers were unable to produce a licence and more than 70 additional offences were detected.

Fishing without a licence can carry a fine of £2,500, along with the confiscation of equipment.
