A PEGSWOOD-BASED business is urging computer owners to be on their guard against bogus callers.
Steve Belleguelle, who runs Behest Computer Services which provides support services for homes and business, says that three of his clients have received the same fraudulent telephone call from people claiming to be ringing from or on behalf of Microsoft.
“The caller speaks with an Asian accent and asks for remote access to the computer as he claims there are errors that need to be fixed,” he said.
“He will bring up a standard list of small errors which are no big deal, but he will try to scare people into thinking that they are severe problems.
“Those who are taken in will then be charged extortionate rates for security programs such as AVG and to ‘tidy up’ the computer software.
“If you get this call or something similar, put the phone down immediately and contact Action Fraud on 0300 1232040.”
