BOGUS callers are targeting computer owners in the Morpeth area, police have warned.
Officers have received a report of a resident receiving a phone call from someone claiming to work for computer company Microsoft.
The victim was told that they had a problem with their computer security system and was asked for an immediate payment of £100 for a security update and to allow remote access to their machine to upload it.
Police say the incident is the latest in a series of similar scams reported in the North East over the last few months.
They urge people not to give out any details over the phone and to report such calls.
