Bikes stolen in early morning raid

THREE bikes have been stolen in an early morning Ponteland raid.

Burglars targeted a garage in the Meadowvale area on Tuesday, March 13.

Police were called to the scene at 2.10am over reports that the thieves had stolen the bikes, along with a hedge trimmer, before making off.

One of the bikes was a black Scott Sportster Pro hybrid bike, with a gel saddle and wireless speedometer. Another was a bronze Trek ladies’ hybrid bike, with a pouch and iPod attachment, and the third was a Specialized black small adult’s mountain bike.

The hedgecutter was a petrol orange and white Bosch model.

Officers have carried out house to house inquiries about the crime.

East Tynedale Inspector Kevin Oates said: “Bikes are attractive for thieves as they can be stolen relatively easy if not secured.

“I’d advise all homeowners to make sure their garages and sheds are locked, especially overnight. If you keep expensive items in your garages then make sure that they are secure at all times.

“Most importantly, if you see people hanging around your neighbourhood late at night or in the early hours of the morning and they look suspicious then ring the police.”

Anyone with information about the crime should contact police on 101, ext 69191.
