BURGLARS have made off with hundreds of pounds of tools after a raid in Morpeth.

The offenders broke into a car parked outside a property in the Northgate area, stealing a Tom Tom XL sat nav system from inside.

They then entered the garage of the property and stole a number of tools, including a red Hilti DO 130 diamond drill, a red Rothenberg pipe freezing tool, a green CS 260 tile cutter and blue and black Bosch drill.

The incident took place between 10.30pm on Tuesday, June 14, and 7.30am the following morning.

Morpeth Inspector Alison Best said: “We believe that the thieves may have been using a vehicle and could have been in the area for a while before the offence took place.

“I’d appeal for anyone who saw any suspicious vehicles or people in the Northgate area to contact us with any information they have.”

She also urged drivers to make sure they lock their cars and reminded workmen to remove tools from vehicles overnight.

“I’d remind all motorists to lock their doors overnight as thieves target unlocked vehicles for any belongings left on show. Workmen especially should remove their tools and any expensive equipment from their vehicles overnight and store them somewhere safe.”

Anyone with information about the burglary or the stolen tools should contact police on 03456 043043, ext 69191, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
