Cops watch web for riot copycats

SOCIAL networking sites are being watched by police to take action against those inciting disorder.

Officers from Northumbria Police are actively monitoring Facebook, Twitter and other such sites, which have been used to encourage copycat riots following disorder in London and other cities around the country.

Police say they will take action against anyone found to be using the sites inappropriately and a 21-year-old woman from South Tyneside has been arrested on suspicion of inciting others to commit disorder.

Temporary Assistant Chief Constable Dave Pryer said: “To the small majority intent on generating disorder using social media — we will track you down and you will face criminal prosecution.”
