Drivers told to be vigilant as discs taken

DRIVERS have been told to be more vigilant after the theft of tax discs.

Two vehicles were targeted in Morpeth on Saturday, May 12.

The first incident took place between 10am and noon when the tax disc was stolen from an unlocked silver Vauxhall Zafira in Dacre Street.

Then between 12.45pm and 1pm, the tax disc was taken from a Honda moped parked in the Morrisons car park.

Police have reminded drivers to secure their vehicles.

Neighbourhood Inspector Dave Simpson said: “This is an opportunist thief who has seen an easy chance of stealing something.

“I would urge anyone who witnessed anything suspicious to get in touch with us.

“I would also like to remind people to ensure they take simple security steps and always check they have locked their vehicle when it is left unattended.”

Anyone with information about the theft should call 101, ext 69191.
