Freeze on police precept

THERE will be no increase in the police precept in Northumberland.

The Police and Crime Panel voted for the freeze as it considered the police budget earlier this month, including plans for £25million of savings up to 2017.

Efficiencies will include cutting discretionary payments, increasing emergency services co-operation, transforming ICT and saving £2.8million on office costs. There will be additional income and the use of reserves. The service expects to make £31million from property sales, but stations will only be sold when alternative bases are found.
