Hundreds arrested in operation

ALMOST 900 people have been arrested as police continue a summer-long operation to target ‘volume crime’.

Operation Soundwave, which is running across the Northumbria Police force area, is particularly focused on offences such as theft and burglary.

Latest figures, from July 8 to July 28, show officers have made 877 arrests, executed 171 warrants and searched more than 580 homes.

Bikes, electrical goods, power tools, drugs and knives have all been recovered.
