POLICE are reminding Northumberland residents not to leave their valuables on show in their car and not to leave their vehicle open to thieves.
There have been recent incidents in the county where criminals have stolen valuables from cars that have been left unlocked and items such as sat navs left on display.
Neighbourhood Inspector Cheryl Warcup said: “It’s distressing for anyone to have their car broken into, even more so if expensive items are stolen which is not only an inconvenience but can leave people out of pocket.
“Most of these thieves are opportunist and we want residents to make it even harder for them.
“Removing valuables from parked cars and making sure the vehicle is locked, in particular overnight, could mean the difference between getting broken into and not.”
