A man has suffered a broken jaw in an early morning attack in Morpeth town centre.
The 25-year-old man was assaulted in Bridge Street in the early hours of Saturday, October 18, as he tried to intervene in an argument between his friend and a man.
He was punched in the face, causing the break, and attended hospital for treatment.
The incident happened outside the Pizza Pizza shop, between 2am and 2.20am.
Police say the area was busy at the time and have appealed for any witnesses to come forward.
Morpeth Inspector Steve Barker said: “This happened in a busy street in Morpeth in the early hours of a Saturday morning. There were a lot of people around at the time and we want to hear from anyone who saw anything.
“We are aware there was an event taking place in the town and a lot of visitors in the area. We are speaking to witnesses and checking CCTV footage.
“If anyone has any information I’d urge them to get in touch as soon as possible.”
