Man who was hit by bus dies in hospital

A man who was involved in a collision with a bus in Hadston has died in hospital.

Matthew Drummond, 38, from Berwick, was hit by the vehicle at 6.06am on Thursday, November 13, near to Togston East Farm Cottage.

He was taken to the RVI in Newcastle and on Sunday, he died as a result of his injuries.

He had been arrested by police at 4.40pm on Wednesday, November 12, and because of that contact, the incident was referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission under procedure.

Inquiries are on-going into the collision and officers are still appealing for anyone with any information to contact them on 101, extension 69191, quoting reference number 166 13/11/14.

Meanwhile, police carried out an extensive search of the river and surrounding area after a man, described as being in his 40s, was believed to have gone into the river at Whorral Bank, Morpeth, in the early hours of Saturday morning.

They found no trace of the man or any signs of him having entered the water, so the search was stood down on Saturday afternoon.
