New appeal after fatal accident

POLICE have made a fresh appeal for witnesses to a fatal road accident.

Andrew Turnbull, 45, of Wallsend, died on Sunday, August 12, after his Kawasaki motorbike left the southbound carriageway of the A696 near Belsay and collided with a road sign.

The accident happened at about 1.55pm and police are keen to trace two motorbike riders who they believe were in the area at the time.

They were both riding Kawasaki bikes, one green and the other black.

Sergeant Dave Clement, of Northumbria Police Road Safety Unit, said: “We believe these two motorbike riders were in the area at the time and it’s possible they have information which could be important to the investigation into the crash.

“I’d urge them or anyone else with information to get in touch with us as soon as possible.”
