Police arrest teen over car theft

OFFICERS have arrested a man and recovered a car worth more than £15,000 after an early-morning police operation.

At around 7am on Tuesday, officers executed warrants as part of Operation Paton – an investigation aimed at disrupting the theft and selling on of stolen vehicles in the Northumbria Police area.

They carried out searches at two addresses in Ponteland and Newcastle and recovered one stolen vehicle and a number of vehicle parts believed to have been stolen previously.

A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and has been released on bail pending further inquiries.

The recovered vehicle, a VW Caddy van, was stolen from the Newcastle area.

Inquiries are on-going.
