Police crime updates at the click of a mouse

CRIME updates and other information from the Morpeth police sector are now available online.

In a video message on YouTube, Neighbourhood Sergeant Dave Simpson discusses recent crime figures and trends, gives crime prevention advice and explains what police officers in the area are focusing on at present.

The online messaging is part of a trial scheme to raise awareness of officers in some of the more rural areas of Northumberland and ensure residents have access to the latest crime information and news about what is going on in their area.

A link to watch the YouTube videos for Morpeth and other locations is being sent out to more than 1,500 FarmWatch members and community message contacts.

Sgt Simpson said: “The videos give people the chance to see what their local officers look like and get to know their faces while receiving information about crime in their local area.

“We’ll continue to use traditional methods like speaking to residents face-to-face, holding public meetings and carrying out patrols in rural areas, but this gives us the chance to try something different.”
