Police hunt bike thief

AN opportunistic thief stole a quad bike from the side yard of a property near Longhirst.

The Red Honda vehicle, registration NH04 SLX, was parked up with the keys still in the ignition when it was taken in Ulgham Lane between 1pm and 1.10pm on Sunday.

At a similar time there was a report of four men in the area with lurcher-type dogs who may have witnessed something.

Morpeth Neighbourhood Inspector Dave Simpson said: “We would urge anyone who saw anything to get in touch and we would especially like to trace the four males who were seen in the area at the time.

“This once again is a reminder to everyone to take some simple crime prevention steps to prevent this sort of offence. Keys should never be left in the ignition of unattended motor vehicles of any type and such action is giving thieves the opportunity to make an easy profit from their actions.”

Anyone with information should call Morpeth police on 101, extension 69191.
