Police hunt daylight burglars

DAYLIGHT burglars have struck in two Morpeth residential areas.

Between 10am and 1pm on Wednesday, January 18, offenders got into a house in Whinham Way and stole seven Lladro ornaments. The porcelain ornaments are unusual and range in size and design.

Burglars made their way into a property on Green Lane, near Coningsby Gardens, between 11.30am and 2.20pm on Thursday, January 19.

They took an Advent laptop and a Microsoft Xbox 360 games console.

Officers are carrying out extra patrols in the areas where the burglaries took place and are making inquiries to try to trace those responsible.

Morpeth Neighbourhood Inspector Dave Simpson said: “Daytime burglaries like these are unusual for the area, but to see two burglaries committed during the middle of the day in neighbourhoods where there would have been people around is concerning.

“I’d remind everyone living in the Morpeth area how important it is to take steps to help deter burglars.

“There are criminals looking to break into homes and steal valuables. They are waiting for easy opportunities such as an open window or an unlocked door.

“I’d appeal for anyone who was in either of the areas on Wednesday and Thursday and who may have seen anything suspicious to contact us with information on 101, extension 69191.”

Residents are also asked to contact police if they are offered the Lladro ornaments for sale.
