Police hunt New Year car vandal

MORPETH town centre was largely trouble-free during the New Year celebrations.

Extra officers and a Northumbria Police Digivan were deployed and Morpeth Neighbourhood Sergeant Dave Simpson said there ‘was quite a nice atmosphere’ among revellers.

But in one incident on Friday, December 31, at 10.30pm, a man walked up to a black Vauxhall Corsa being driven along Bridge Street and smashed the nearside wing mirror with his fist.

The offender is described as being white, approximately 6ft 2ins tall and of stocky build, aged between mid 20s and early 30s, having a shaved head and wearing a light brown jumper with a pink shirt underneath as well as dark blue jeans.

Any witnesses or anyone with information about the offence should contact Morpeth police on 03456 043043.
