POLICE have warned of a spate of lead thefts in Lynemouth.
Properties have been targeted in Albion Terrace, Queen Street, Henley Square and River View in the last week, with thieves taking lead from roofs.
Officers are stepping up patrols in the area in the evenings and overnight, as well as studying CCTV footage.
And they have called on the public to be vigilant.
Ashington Inspector Barrie Joisce said: “We have seen an emerging pattern of lead thefts in the Lynemouth area over the last week and we are asking for the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour to us.
“The price of metal makes this type of crime attractive to criminals and we are working with local scrap yards to identify those involved. Lead is a heavy metal and it is likely offenders are using vehicles or wheelie bins to transport it.”
He also asked residents to report any scrap vehicles they see.
“Residents should ring in and report any scrap vehicles that they see in their neighbourhood — that way we can check them out and make sure they are legal and in order,” he said.
