POLICE are warning householders to be vigilant with their doors and windows following a theft in Pegswood.

Between 1.15pm and 2.40pm on Saturday, offenders got into a house in Ellis Square through an unlocked front door.

While the owners were in the back garden, they stole a purse that had been left on view.

DCI Peter Reeve of Northumberland Area Command said: “Regardless of where you live in Northumberland, residents need to make sure they are doing the simple things to deter thieves and burglars.

“Lock your doors during the day, overnight, when you’re leaving the house and even if you’re in your home but out the back gardening or upstairs.”

Anyone with any information into the theft is asked to contact police on 03456 043043 – extension 69191 – or the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
