A MORPETH pensioner had her purse stolen during a shopping trip to the town centre.

The brown Marks and Spencer purse, which contained various personal documents and £65 in cash, was taken from the handbag of a 70-year-old woman.

It was stolen between 10.40am and 11.20am on Monday, January 30, and may have happened when she was in a charity shop.

An Asda loyalty card that was stolen was later used at 11.33am in the Ashington branch of Asda by a man who obtained £55 worth of mobile phone vouchers by redeeming the value of the loyalty card.

He is described as white with a slim build and approximately 40 years old. He was wearing a dark jacket and dark cap.

Anyone with information about the offence is asked to contact police on 101, extension 69191.
