THIEVES have broken into stables near Longhirst and made off with horse tack.
A black sports saddle and five metal horse bits were stolen in the raid last week, as well as the filing cabinet where the kit was stored.
The brown and cream filing cabinet had been specially adapted for the tack and was weighed down with concrete. It was extremely heavy so more than one person and a vehicle would have been needed to take it.
The theft took place sometime between 8pm on Wednesday and 7am on Thursday.
Police can arrange to mark horse tack for owners to give them more protection and ensure any recovered stolen items are returned.
Anyone with information about the Longhirst theft, or the whereabouts of the equipment, should contact police on 101, ext 69191, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
