VANDALS have wrecked a park bin and damaged wooden steps in Morpeth’s award winning Carlisle Park.

A bin near the skate park was set alight sometime between 5.30pm on Monday and 9.45am on Tuesday.

It appears that accelerant was poured over the bin and set alight. The bin was melted by the fire and some wooden steps, about 20m away, were slightly damaged.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Acting Morpeth Inspector Dave Simpson said: “There would have been quite a lot of people walking through the park in the evening and somebody may have seen something suspicious. We would appeal for them to contact us.”

Anyone with information about the blaze can contact police on 03456 043043.
