Warnings to bikers

STRIKING yellow warning signs have gone up across Northumberland to advise bikers to take care.

The road safety scheme was trialled last year in the Alnwick area by Northumberland County Council, Northumbria Police and Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service following complaints from residents about bikers driving dangerously on country roads.

Less accidents were reported in the area during the pilot so it has now been rolled out countywide by the Safer Northumberland Partnership, with funding from the county council.

Signs have been put up at accident black spots to encourage motorcyclists to think twice about speeding and police will patrol the roads to take enforcement action where necessary.
