A DAMNING verdict was given by parish councillors on the delay to Morpeth’s flood alleviation scheme.
The angry response came during East Chevington Parish Council’s meeting on Monday when members were told how the £17million project is unlikely to have funding allocated for the 2011/12 financial year.
It follows an announcement from the Environment Agency, which has said its flood management funding has been reduced.
But Coun John Morris said: “It is absolutely terrible. The flood of 2008 was a horrible thing, yet our scheme is lower priority than everybody else’s.
“There was a flood in Cumbria which was bad, but I can’t think of any others. It is disgraceful.”
Meanwhile, Coun Scott Dickinson described the news as “unbelievable”.
