BUILDING work on Morpeth’s new supermarket will be starting in about six weeks.
Developer Dransfield Properties has announced that Gateshead-based company Tolent Construction has been awarded the contract to undertake the project and work on site is set to begin during the week commencing November 7.
The 50,000 sq ft store in Low Stanners, which received planning permission earlier this year, is scheduled to open in November 2012.
The name of its operator is expected to be announced soon.
A Dransfield Properties spokeswoman said: “Access to the site for the time being will continue to be via Dark Lane and site vehicles will not be using Staithes Lane.
“We will, of course, endeavour to be a good neighbour during the construction period.”
Work to the Staithes Lane area is scheduled for next spring.
The street will be widened and a new roundabout installed at the junction with Dark Lane and there will also be some landscaping, which will include trees and a fountain.
