Some who voted to leave the EU might be having second thoughts – about personal friends from the EU who may be forced to leave us, about the £6billion potential cost of not getting a good deal, about the poorest people suffering most, about City firms moving to Frankfurt or Dublin, about US trade links bringing hormone-injected beef, about a cast-iron border between Northern Ireland and the Republic, and about road blockages caused by customs inspections at Dover.

Others who voted remain are worrying about the same things.

I will be at the demo in Newcastle on March 4 at Grey’s Monument, from 12.30pm, followed by a talk at the Literary and Philosophical Society library at 4pm.
