Phil Taylor, who was Mayor of Morpeth for one year and Deputy Mayor for two years, and his wife Joan celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a family party.
They got married on October 4, 1958, after meeting the previous year and have lived in different parts of the North East.
Phil, 85, spent most of his working life as a civil engineer for Wimpey Construction. Joan, 88, left the Atkinson’s shoe shop in Newcastle to be a full-time mum to their four children – they also have two grandchildren.
Phil and Joan took part in archaeological digs as volunteers and helped set-up museums. They both enjoyed various holidays abroad and one of their favourites was walking in Switzerland.
They moved to Morpeth when Phil retired. The family party took place at Meadow Park Care Home in Bedlington, where they now reside.
