FAST and furious bidding for more than 70 lots has raised over £3,000 to help Ponteland High School’s Kenya project.

A seven-day walking Safari, flights in aircraft and microlights, a cruise on the Tyne, a giant cupcake, top flower arrangements and the services of a band were among the many attractions available at an auction.

The school is now closing in on its target of £8,000 which is needed to build a nursery facility in Labentera, a small Maasai village in Kenya. Proceeds from the auction will allow the roof to be completed and a few other works to be carried out.
