MORE than 100 school students armed themselves with scissors and straighteners to do battle in a regional hair and beauty contest.
School links students from Berwick to Durham took part in the competition at Northumberland College’s Kirkley Hall campus to show off the skills they have learnt in hair and beauty courses.
The Year 10 and 11 students, aged 14 to 16, competed in several categories, including hair by day, evening elegance, party nails and men’s styling, with prizes for first, second and third places.
Northumberland College’s Assistant Principal for 14 to 19 Frances Hobson presented the awards and was proud to see the college pick up 21 of the 36 trophies.
Lecturer Michelle Tait, who co-ordinated the event, said: “This competition provides an ideal opportunity to acknowledge the amazing achievements of the school links students and is the only event of its kind in the region.
“The competition gives the students from across the region a chance to come together to compete and gives them a real sense of achievement and motivation when they return to college.”
