Morpeth and District U3A
AFTER the 17th Annual General Meeting, held at Morpeth Rugby Club on Tuesday, June 25, Garth Miller continues as Chairman of Morpeth U3A for a second year and Bob Richardson now fills the post of Vice-Chairman, as well as Membership Secretary of the organisation.
Finances will be kept in order by the newly-elected Treasurer Pam Turner, and Bridget Coxon will be the new Secretary.
Margaret Trotman becomes the Media Secretary and Watson Warren will look after the website.
The 2013 AGM was attended by 70 of the 242 members. In his report on the previous year Chairman Garth Miller spoke of the national U3A website and defined ‘why we are what we are’, stating that curiosity is what learning is about and that, together with new technologies, learning should be fun.
He talked of data protection and stressed the importance of communications and the sharing of news, knowledge and information.
After the meeting, members enjoyed the entertainment provided by Kim Bibby-Wilson, pictured left, who played the Northumbrian Small Pipes, sang local songs and recited poetry connected with the North East.
