A LUCKY Northumberland school could win a £10,000 grounds make-over – but time is running out to apply.
Tarmac Ltd has teamed up with Northumberland Wildlife Trust to offer the prize in the Win With Wildlife competition.
The quarrying and construction materials company will provide labour, materials and machinery to create a school wildlife haven, and the winner and two runners-up will also receive a trip to a working quarry and a visit to a nature reserve for up to 40 children.
However, schools must request an application pack by Friday, December 16.
Once registered they will have to survey their grounds for species and habitats already there, register free with the Environmental Records and Information Centre to upload their data and produce a Biodiversity Action Plan outlining how they would like to protect existing wildlife within their grounds and improve them to attract more creatures.
The plans could include improving habitats such as grasslands by adding wild flowers, creating a wildlife pond, or developing the ultimate wildlife garden.
For an application pack email firstname.lastname@example.org or contact Northumberland Wildlife Trust People and Wildlife Officer Tracy Evans on 0191 284 6884.
