MOVES are underway to get the community more involved with a Morpeth school’s media suite.
An open event will take place on Saturday to give people a taste of what the £225,000 facility at Collingwood School and Media Arts College can be used for.
Between 10.30am and 12.30pm there will be a digital media workshop which will cover 3D computer animation, video game design and how to use ‘green screen’ filming technology.
And at the same time, a ‘confident computing’ course will teach beginners and how to use basic functions such as e-mail and word processing software.
A Photoshop taster session from 1pm to 3pm will show people with pictures on CD or a memory stick how to make a montage. They can also print their photographs for a small fee.
The second afternoon workshop is about stop motion animation. Various techniques will be demonstrated.
The school’s Media Manager, Nicky Wall, said: “The workshops on Saturday are aimed to kick start this year’s community programme.
“The ‘confident computing’ course is designed to help people who are a bit scared of technology and those who are looking to do a computer course but want to make sure they can do all the basic functions first.
“The animation sessions will hopefully get more people to come along to our animation workshops on Thursday evenings in six-week blocks and some Saturday mornings.
“If we can build up enough interest, we would love to provide community courses in other areas later in the year.”
The cinema screening will be of PG rated Rango. The computer-animated film, which features the voice of Johnny Depp, will start at 10.15am.
This is part of a project with Doorstep Pictures and Love Local Cinema that is seeing the Greater Morpeth Development Trust show films for adults in Morpeth Town Hall.
Mrs Wall said: “On Saturday people can become a member of the cinema club and we are also looking for businesses who would like to sponsor a future screening to get in touch.”
Tickets to see Rango are priced £3 on the door and £2.50 in advance — children under three go free.
It costs £1 to go to a workshop of your choice for the morning session and it is the same price for the afternoon. For more information, telephone 01670 516374 or visit www.collingwoodmediacollege.co.uk
